This has been a very busy month. The shelter has been full and a lot has been happening. Youthcare Hervey Bay was one of the 316 organisations that were covered by the New Fair Work (Transitional Provisions and Consequential Amendments) Amendment Regulations 2011, the requirement to back pay at the new higher rate back to January 2010 was a surprise to many in the sector. Like other organisations we are working with QCOSS and Jobs Australia to assess what the regulation requires of us and to comply. There have been a lot of reports in the media about this issue and its potential impacts on non-profit organisations. As an organisation we are on sound financial footing, this new regulation will not threaten our services or viability. Our youth photo competition closes on 1 October, the top twelve entries will feature in our 2012 calendar. The calendar will raise funds for our new shelter. This is the first year that we have run such a competition, we plan to make it an annual event. Our AGM is at the end of the month, on the 28th. This will be our 21st AGM, it is a time for us to reflect on the year that has passed and to focus our energies forward. George Seymour 17/09/2011 |
